Dziś opowiem Wam historię dosłownie z zegarkiem w ręku. Zgodnie z hasłem, że design jest wszędzie, zajrzymy tam, gdzie projektowanie jest najprecyzyjniejsze i najistotniejsze, a jednocześnie i paradoksalnie – najmniej widoczne. Przekonamy się, że piękna należy szukać i odkrywać je tam, gdzie jego ujrzenie wymaga wysiłku; wysiłku, który się opłaca. To luksus dla oka, to luksus dla ducha.
Z zegarkiem w ręku: Mechaniczna pomarańcza
Tytuł powieści Anthony’ego Burgessa przyszedł mi do głowy, ponieważ po pierwsze bardzo tu pasuje, a po drugie korzenie tego wpisu są mocno powiązane z lekturą. Pierwszy pomysł pojawił się bowiem, gdy czytałam w jednym z moich ulubionych pism o wnętrzach, architekturze i designie – niemieckim magazynie „Places of Spirit” – relację z genewskiego Salonu Elitarnego Zegarmistrzostwa (SIHH – Salon International de la Haute Horlogerie). Właśnie tik, właśnie tak, wzrok Was nie myli – Salon Elitarnego Zegarmistrzostwa.
A potem w jednym z kolejnych numerów tego samego pisma był artykuł na ten sam temat, o magii zegarów.
A potem dostałam zegarek, w którym zakochałam się natychmiast, ponieważ od razu okazał mi serce, a raczej swój precyzyjny mechanizm, otwarcie i jak na dłoni.
A potem dostałam dwie książki o zegarkach – jedną do czytania, drugą do podziwiania. To ona właśnie była tą kroplą, która przepełniła czarę i na strony FORelements musiałam przelać opowieść o niezwykłym i tajemniczym pięknie zegarkowych mechanizmów.
Tick-tock, tick-tock…
Today I’m going to tell you a story literally by the clock. According to the motto „Design is everywhere„, we will take a look into areas where design is the most precise and important factor and at the same time (sic!) it’s the most invisible part of the whole. We will see that searching for hidden beauty is not always easy, it requires some effort but it’s worth it definitely. It’s a luxury for your eyes, it’s a luxury for your soul.
A Clockwork Orange
The title of the Anthony Burgess’ novel came to my head for two reasons: first of all, it seems to be very appropriate here; second of all, this blog entry is deeply rooted in printed words. Namely, the idea originates from reading in one of my favourite magazines on interiors, architecture and design – i.e. „Places of Spirit” published in Germany – a coverage from The Salon International De La Haute Horlogerie (SIHH) held in Geneva, Switzerland. Yes, that’s right, your eyes don’t deceive you – The International Fair of the High Watchmaking.
And then there was another article on the same issue, the magic of clocks, in the same magazine.
And then I got a present, a watch, I immediately fell in love with for its clear heart, open and visible to me in the entire precision of its clockwork.
And then I received two books – one for reading and one for admiring, and exactly the latter one turned out to be a trigger for this story on the amazing and mysterious beauty of clockwork design.

Serce, czyli wahnik, to „element naciągu automatycznego zegarka”. Ergo: gdy ja ruszam ręką, ów półksiężyc – krótko mówiąc – bezwładnie się obraca, naciąga sprężynę i nakręca zegarek.
HERE – My watch and its beating heart.
The heart means the central rotor, or the element of a self-winding (automatic) watch. To make a long story short: when I move my hand, it moves too, winds the mainspring and makes the mechanism work.
