The London report (part 2): Tent London & SuperBrands

Część druga londyńskiego raportu to Tent London oraz SuperBrands. Obie ekspozycje zorganizowano w Old Truman Brewery (czyli po naszemu – w Starym Browarze) w dzielnicy Whitechapel, która nieco przypomina warszawską Pragę. Niby daleko od centrum, ale łatwo dojechać; sporo galerii i pracowni, ale też i budynków, które wydają się na skraju zawalenia. Takie miejsca jednak mają ciekawą historię (w Whitechapel, na przykład, grasował Kuba Rozpruwacz) i urok; przyciągają, wołają i zachęcają. Więc poszłam.

The second part of my London report is the Tent London and SuperBrands coverage. Both exhibitions took place in Old Truman Brewery in Whitechapel, i.e. the part of London slightly reminding me of Praga, a borough of Warsaw – it’s quite far from the center of the city, yet it’s easily available and there is a lot of galleries and studios there, as well as buildings which seem to be about to collapse. However, places like this have their unique history (for example, Whitechapel was a territory of Jack the Ripper) and charm; they seduce, attract and allure. So, I went there.

W kwestii trendów  i tendencji rzecz ma się w sumie tak samo jak z designjunction, szczególnie dotyczy to Tent London. Bardzo wiele było tam projektów eko, bardzo mało tworzyw sztucznych i innych futurystycznych pomysłów. Jeśli zaś chodzi o SuperBrands, czyli marki luksusowe, zauważyłam sporo zabaw z konwencją, humoru, przymrużenia oka. Bogactwo staje się przedmiotem zabawy, nie zaś napuszonego posiadania. Zobaczmy więc, o co chodzi.

Jake Phipps  – tak, tak, ten sam, który zaprojektował lampy Jeeves i Wooster dla Innermost, które pokazałam w poprzednim wpisie. Tym razem – w wydaniu bardzo ekskluzywnym, ale też wciąż z poczuciem humoru. Poniżej – parawan oraz lustro z kolekcji Stellar oraz konsola Lost At Sea.

As far as trends and tendencies are concerned I think the matter is quite similar to designjunction, particularly at Tent London. There’s a lot of eco products there, barely plastics and other futuristic ideas. Then, SuperBrands, or the exhibition of luxury brands, was spiced up with humor, wit, irony. Being rich is fun now, it’s not a cause for haughtiness. Let’s see what the thing is about.

Jake Phipps – yes, you’re right, this is the same Jake Phipps who designed the Jeeves and Wooster lamps for Innermost I wrote about in the previous entry. This time the items are luxurious but still ironic. Below – the Stellar screen and mirror and the Lost At Sea console.

Kolekcja „Earth to Earth” (proj. Ginger & Jagger) dla Munna – inspiracje naturą w luksusowym wydaniu. Stolik trochę przypomina mi kolekcję Koi od Brabbu.

Kolekcja Madrague (proj François Azambourg ) dla Ligne Roset – prosta, ale wyrafinowana wygoda spod ręki cenionego francuskiego projektanta.

Whetstone Oak – meble z litego drewna, ręcznie wykonane; piękne, ale na stoisku najbardziej urzekło mnie oświetlenie.

Vezzini & Chen – Cristina Vezzini i Chen Sheng Tsang to duet z Londynu; ich ręcznie robione szklane obiekty tworzą niezwykły, nieco teatralny nastój.

Surface View – starzy mistrzowie w nowym pomieszczeniach. Skarby kultury przeskalowane i przeniesione na tkaniny i tapety. Przykładem niech będą słynny portret Madame de Pompadour według Françoisa Bouchera albo wzór kwiatowy według Williama Morrisa.

Steuart Padwick – wynikiem współpracy z Jess Shaw jest kolekcja lamp-obłoków, płynących przez pomieszczenie niczym po nocnym niebie.

Jeonghwa Seo (Korea Płd.) – design jest wszędzie, także tworzywo jest wszędzie, wszystko można połączyć ze wszystkim; stołki, które powstały z kilku rodzajów drewna, metalu, kamieni oraz innych materiałów wydawałoby się sprzecznych.

Hanna Kruse – piękne naczynia w duchu zen pokazywałam już w relacji z targów Ambiente, prezentując młodych projektantów, którzy zwrócili moją uwagę.

A tymczasem piętro wyżej, na Tent London…

Beza Projekt dla Krajowej Izby Gospodarczej Bursztynu – dwie polskie projektantki, które w ubiegłym roku dostały wyróżnienie Must Have podczas Łódź Design Festival tym razem zachwycają prototypem włączników do światła zrobionych z bursztynu w obudowie z corianu. Przepiękne.

Beza Projekt for Krajowa Izba Gospodarcza Bursztynu (Polish Amber Chamber) – two Polish designers (two girls), last year awarded with the Must Have prize at the Łódź Design Festival (the largest design event in Poland), this time enraptured with prototypes of ligh switches made of amber and Corian. Amazing.

Pepe Heykoop dla fundacji Tiny Miracles – składane papierowe osłonki na wazony/butelki, zaprojektowane dla fundacji charytatywnej. Proste, ale pomysłowe.

Zoe Murphy – i znowu (po H Furniture na designjunction) połączenie brytyjskiego vintage z kulturą meksykańską. O Zoe Murphy pisałam kiedyś do jednego z magazynów wnętrzarskich, teraz miałam okazję ją poznać i bardzo się z tego cieszę, ponieważ była to czysta przyjemność.

Artesanía de Galicia – rękodzieło z hiszpańskiej Galicji. Nowoczesny, pogodny folk pełen niespodzianek.

Studio Douglas James – ma być innowacyjnie i ma być eko. Estetycznie – nic nowego, ale za to ładne i – jak zapewnia studio – humanitarne.

KIMU Design – „świeży smak Tajwanu”, który ma zmienić świat na lepsze.

SetWorkshop – Art wcale nie taka Brut, ponieważ betonowe meble w znanych formach i jasnych kolorach są bardzo przyjazne użytkownikowi, który wcale nie musi być miłośnikiem industrialu.

Tamasine Osher Design – proste i łagodne kształty, beton i drewno; ponowne obalenie mitów, że te dwa materiały nie idą w parze.

A tu niestety nie wiem, czyj to projekt, ale ta komoda ma tak niezwykły kształt, że nie mogłam sobie odmówić prezentacji.

Unfortunately I have no idea whose project it it but the sideboard is so amazingly shaped that featuring it here was a must-have.

Fatboy – wygoda i relaks, przedstawiać nie trzeba. Ale przysięgam, że bardzo podobnie wyglądałam po zaliczeniu wszystkiego, co w Old Truman Brewery było do zaliczenia…

Powiem to szeptem, żeby nie zbudzić tej miłej kobiety, ale mam dobrą wiadomość. Po dwóch wyczerpujących raportach z Londynu, zrobimy sobie małą przerwę na… kolejny festiwal. Tym razem będzie Łódź Design Festival (którego jestem Ambasadorem), ale potem wrócimy na Wyspy, bo – chyba już gdzieś to słyszałam – jeszcze tyle przed nami…

I’ll whisper it out to you, so not to wake the nice lady above, but I have a great news. After the two comprehensive London reports we’ll make a break for… another design event, this time Łódź Design Festival (which I’m the Ambassador to). However, we’ll get back to the British capital for – have I already heard this somewhere before?  – there’s so much to see yet…
